Wheel Repair

Rim Straightening

East Coast Wheel technicians can straighten virtually any bent car or truck rim. Whether it’s a 15″ OEM or 24″ custom rim – no job is too small or too large. This includes steel, aluminum and chrome rims. East Coast Wheel has devised it’s own patented straightening devices to get the job done right.

Each rim is first inspected with a highly sensitive measuring instrument to determine the exact location and severity of the scratch, bend or crack. The damaged area is then brought back to original manufacturers’ specifications by using very specialized wheel straightening machinery.

Cosmetic Repairs

With our reconditioning tools, proprietary paints and clearcoat process, we can remove curb rash, scrapes, gouges and discoloration caused by age. It’s a specialized process that ensures a match with the undamaged wheels. There are many variations of standard silver wheel finishes depending on the concentration of metallic within the paint.

More metallic generally gives off a brighter finish, while less metallic yields a flatter finish. There is also a class of finishes known as hyper silver. Your East Coast Wheel professional is highly skilled in matching all these finishes. Polished aluminum wheels can also be brought back to like-new condition.

CNC Machining

Our location is set up to offer CNC machining on a state-of-the-art CNC wheel lathe. The device cuts a fine layer of aluminum from the entire face of the rim with exacting precision, producing a new finish that is equal to or better than original factory finishes.

The machine is specifically designed for those wheels with machined finishes. A machined faced wheel has a bright finish much like polished aluminum. However, upon closer inspection, machined rims have tiny machine lines cut into the aluminum.

Welding

It’s not uncommon for a pothole or curb to cause a small crack in a wheel. Metal fatigue can also play a part. East Coast Wheel technicians are trained to handle this type of repair and use only top quality welders. Some cracks are unsafe to weld, such as those located on the spoke of a rim. In this case, your East Coast Wheel technician will find a replacement OEM rim at a fraction of the cost of a new rim.

Corrosion Repair

Most of the corrosion we see occurs on chrome plated wheels. Even high quality aluminum is very difficult to electroplate because aluminum is an extremely active metal that instantly forms an oxide skin, and you can’t plate oxides. Put metals like copper, nickel and chrome on it, develop a tiny perforation in the plating, add moisture, and you have a powerful corrosion battery where galvanic forces cause the aluminum to corrode.

Eventually, the plating will detach from the wheel causing an escape path for the air, and you get a flat! Fix-a-flat tire sealants are also very corrosive, and we recommend that you never use these products. If their use is unavoidable, at the first opportunity, have the tire dismounted and diagnose why you needed to use it in the first place. Repair that problem. Then completely clean and dry the inside of the tire and wheel prior to remounting. We have seen these products corrode chrome plated, powder coated, painted, and bare aluminum wheels.

Wheel Polishing

Wheel polishing can make a world of difference. Remove swirls, light scratches from clear coated wheels, and polish aluminum and chrome with the best selection of mini and micro tools in the industry.

Lease Returns

Millions of people in the United States lease their vehicle from the car dealership. When the time comes to return the leased vehicle, many will focus their efforts on detailing and cleaning the car in and out. Most don’t realize that car dealerships inspect rims and wheels just as closely as the interior of the car. “Excessive damage” is any damage the dealership feels was sustained outside of normal use. To have this damage fixed through the dealership is usually very expensive.

At East Coast Wheel our refinishing experts inspect your wheels and refinish or repair all damage for the lowest price available. We ensure that when your lease has is up your vehicle’s wheels will look as if they never left the dealership’s lot
